Techniques to be more convincing in the work place

Techniques to be more convincing in the work place
If you struggle to convince a difficult boss or the office cynic to buy in to your plans, you need to work on your technique for winning people over.

Firstly, always allow others to let off steam. Once they’ve finished they’ll be more willing to listen and you can adapt your response accordingly.

Secondly, build a network of allies and canvass for their support before dealing with the likely cynic. A proposal with broad acceptance is harder to reject.

Thirdly, flatter so they think they will be the one responsible for the positive result. For example ‘I really think the project can only work because of you and your strong client relationships’.

Fourthly, work on the solution together so it feels as if you and your colleagues / boss / team have come to the decision collaboratively, even if you direct the conversation towards the decision you want.

Finally, yet most importantly, be respectful of other viewpoints ... do not love or hate. It could also be you who is the problem, so put aside your ego, do not be too passionate and build bridges with as many people as you can.
